i recently hunted for and purchased a rug through craigs list. which is where i always “shop” by the way.

i was looking for a hand knotted wool rug. not a machine made nylon copy rug. wanted the real deal.

why-? -ive tried the nylon-poly rug deal. thought id save money. olefin claims to be indestructible and stain proof. i had a real wool rug as well.

under a test of 3 boys and a zillion other boys ages 2-10 running through our home daily, sometimes with squirt guns, some playdough, spagettios, glitter, pop, ketchup, syrup, and mostly: mud; mud mixed with leaves; because the boys would go outside and bring in bugs to freeze in ice cube trays (for science homework) everyday, which added some fun to my adult parties! were my olefin rug and an old fancy Persian wool rug.

((note to kids: that last sentence is called and extreme run on.))

so-my fancy Persian wool rug lived on. the stains always cleaned. it looks amazing.
the olefin one looked like a rug that raised a family who ate ketchup on it everyday.
the wool is soft- the olefin always was a little scratchy.
we just cant copy what is real and natural and not man made. although we try. and try.

anyway.my way to get the genuine real wool rug for less, is to get it used. so i find this rug on craigs list. quite a deal.
i ask the seller – is it wool? yes she says. wool. Persian. made in egypt.
sweet! i am excited. i drive over expecting to get this soft plush handmade wool piece of art, complete with a history behind it, something that will last forever, something unique…
as soon as i get within 100 feet of the rug is see that its not wool. i think she saw disappointment on my face even though i did not want her too.
its not wool, i said…. but it is cute.
she looks on the back.= i”t is made in Egypt.but by an American based company. olefin.
“i assume olefin is a type of wool, since it was handmade in egypt?”………………..she just didnt know..
i did buy it anyway 9×12. cute. 50 bucks.
there is a lot more to life than the perfect rug for sure. i dont have to be picky. but i do know whats real sometimes.

as i drove home i thought: question is and am i real? would people spot my fakeness a few feet away?

i think that parts of this big world try to make “fake persian- copy people”
and cut the cost
and the quality
we are more profitable that way.
we have a couple of “made in egypt ” tags that fool us.

i call them lies.

good sex=love

money=worth

smart=wisdom

fun=happiness

nice home=good family

etc. what do you think is a lie??????
