to defined by what it is not

sometimes when we look too close we cant see straight……. one day a friend said that “i  could not define something mostly by what it was NOT. hearing that caught me. for i love defining things by what they are not. for so often when something is defined by what it is our vision of it becomes boxed, thereby a wrong definition is communicated, and the hearer has a false expectation of it. so, i order for me to correctly define anything living, growing or abstract and new, i chose to define it by what is it NOT. it is possible that the best things in life are defined best by what they are not. they are so big and grand and beautiful and beyond….that i find it smallizing, limiting, unjust, and incorrect to explain it by what it is.and grace: try sometimes defining things not only by what it is in your knowledge and experience….. take the lid off and you may see a little more Read more...

i am always around teenagers i get to hear them speak of whom is ” cool” as far as adults to the surprise of many adults, cool is not ever someone lax, who just lets kids get away with stuff. those adults are not respected actually, and they are taken advantage of- they try to act cool and therefore cannot cool is one who thinks openly and gives mutual respect to others, it is graceful and accepting some folks mistake grace for –lax as if grace is just turning a blind eye they want others to turn a blind eye and they turn a blind eye to others but it is love to show us that we are hurting, others, ourselves it is grace a place where we experience in all of our senses absorption of the damage done work in restoring and healing a gentle stoke upon our head this responsible intolerance is grace that leads us from our grave and sets us on the only path to life Read more...

beautiful emptiness

I have been pondering today empty spaces and the potential space for beauty that only they provide. simple pictures: new garden soil, ready to plant spring flowers or weeds a nice clean empty table by the front door, very soon holds our keys and cell phones a now empty bedroom can be a home to someone. empty calendar time can give room to serve others an undone job can be a new purpose for another soul portraits: empty feelings failing to measure up empty life purpose fruitless life relationships heartless traditions fakey family lifeless groups unhappy seekers off purpose churches non focused faith meaningless materials nothing to trust inability to be satisfied in wonder of belonging no joy in being sitting in puddles of excuses living limited self misundersanding unanswered questions we search for the answer to our weakness. our unmet need. the non-answer is a ground work for a change to blossom in all. so the empty space sometimes must remain in our soul gives us eyes that see HOPE: on the corner of LIFE and ADVERSITY Read more...

i was eating dandelion salad at greektown -(a classic chicago restaurant) -last week when one of the men went to the bathroom. he returned to inform us that there were 6 bathrooms. 5 for women. 1 for men. the owner is obviously a architectural genius with a new innovation based on his knowledge that : woman and men are different. not so. some say. deal with it.some say enjoy it. i say. i love being a woman. i love accessories, skirts and high heels. i love nurturing and leading at the same time. i love begin pregnant, and letting men be men. i think there are roles.oh, i dont want to piss anyone off. the roles are not so labeled and i dont intend for that. women can be anything, so can guys, i believe that. but there is a beauty in gender. balance seems to be a key. i think the culture screws it up a bit. in each gender we seem to want what is impossible. both sides of all the coins, one or the other. i think it causes fights in marriages too. gender expectation. its sad because it is so workable and flexible. and that is where the individual beauty can be seen. i Read more...

i am a leader. not talking about title. just by desire to serve where needed, and with this vow i have been placed in leadership since i was a girl scout. i am a servant leader for sure. and a follower when needed, good leaders know when to move over a little. i am honored to lead people to do good and change. but sometimes  i consider. whining. running. i dont always know. ive never asked to be a leader. i just focus on an end result, and know that i can get a group there. and so it happens. coming from passion. sometimes life seems to be a war upon this very passion, one of hope. and so, it is best if we -leaders  who never asked to be leaders- band together. find encouragement. validation. i suppose, i could help lead that? the hospitality of poverty

I have a book called “design for the other 90%” 90 % refers to the 5.8 billion/90% of the world who have little or no access to most of the products and services that many of us take for granted. Nearly half do not have access to life sustaining food, water or shelter. This book tells of current collaborations of top engineers and others at the Smithsonian who have now shifted focus of their talents to help this 90% live well. I love the mission and the name of the book, because in my american privilege and power I forget that i am only a part. ” To him who had been given much, much is required” , I long to never forget…. My brief stay among this 90%, otherwise called poor, on a couple of missions trips, along with my ample reading of others whom have lived outside of the US have now re-defined HOSPITALITY for me. In my opinion, the less afluent understand hospitality in a far deeper level than the wealthy. The hospitality of poverty is so beautiful that no longer do I see the entertaining that we call hospitality the real deal. How can I take the Read more...
